This Couple Built Their Dog An Incredible Room Of Her Own Under The Stairs Just In Time For Their Baby's Arrival
Molly, a Westie with a very important promotion on the way, was about to become a big sister just as her human family prepared for a new baby. Instead of treating the under-stairs space as wasted square footage, her owners turned it into a custom room that gave Molly a place of her own and helped the house make room for everyone else.
The project started with a walled-in area and a lot of uncertainty, because nobody knew exactly what they would find once they began. What they ended up with was a clever little hideaway that looks surprisingly polished, and it quickly drew attention as the family entered the myBuilder Project of the Year competition.
With a baby arriving and Molly already settled in style, this house makeover has plenty of people talking. Read on.
Molly
Here she is, looking quite pleased with her special little space.

A beloved pup.

Here she is, looking pretty proud of her baby sister, Catelyn.

Where it all began
Michael poked a hole in the wall, hoping there might be dead space back there, but initially, he was unsure of what to expect.

Michael said:
"If it was going to work, I also needed to move the wiring for the house alarm system."
So, he took this opportunity to add some upgrades to the family's kitchen.

The next step was cutting out some of the space so he could really see what he had to work with, besides the sneak peek he got when he cut the previous hole.

Michael decided the space was bigger than he thought and that it was "around 4 square meters."

He wanted it to be a comfortable amount of space for Molly, too, so he let her in to see if she was scared and to help determine if it would be big enough. It definitely looks big enough!

The door frame looks fantastic and is also an important part of the design. Michael said that the base was "in place as integral to [the] support staircase."

Once the plasterboard was fitted, the space already looked so much more like a real room!

Here's a fun shot of Molly 'helping' with the plastering and sealing process of her soon-to-be special space.

Isn't this wallpaper too cute?

Inside looking out:
What will Molly see from inside her special room? This:

Michael really raised the ambiance by adding "color-changing mood lighting." Molly seems pleased!

Molly was described as patient, waiting outside as her family worked diligently on her room. What a good dog!

As the flooring went in, the space really began to come alive!

Michael made skirting for the walls because everything was just so "awkwardly" shaped. This is what we call dedication!

These signs were custom-made just for Molly because she is one loved pup!

While Molly continued to patiently wait for her special room, she took over the family's new couch as a temporary barking spot.

But since Molly loved the couch so much, her family decided to buy one of her very own for her new room!

Some of the "finishing" touches on Molly's room included a "luxury" bed and custom photo frames. Molly's room is starting to look nicer than my whole house.

The photos we get a glimpse of here are, according to Michael, of Molly at school with her doggo friends. If that isn't the cutest...

"All moved in, proud as punch!"
If anything was ever true, it is definitely that mat placed in front of Molly.

We can feel the happiness radiating from Molly as she poses politely in her special new space!

It was clear right away that Molly loved her space, especially her "cozy corner."

Other finishing touches included placing her signs up top, a personalized hook to hang her harness, and a basket of toys we can all see in this photo.

It's the perfect setup for a spunky pup.

And Molly prefers her new digs to the family's outdoor home she used to enjoy. It just doesn't compare anymore!

And if you think your dog is protective, wait until you see this husky cuddle the baby sister.
