Peculiar Dogs Like To Sit In The Strangest Positions
Dogs have a talent for turning ordinary furniture into a comedy stage, and the so-called “rarest sit” is one of their funniest habits. It is the kind of pose where a dog parks its back end on one step, then stretches its front legs down to the next, as if it forgot how stairs work.
That odd posture looks uncomfortable to people, but plenty of dogs seem perfectly happy doing it on stairs, couches, and beds. A popular dog account invited followers to share their own examples, and the replies quickly filled up with pups sitting in the strangest possible ways.
The photos below show just how common this goofy habit really is.

Some dogs just want the best view in the house, even if it means sitting like a tiny acrobat.

Michele Wan, a certified animal behaviorist and owner of Advanced Dog Behavior Solutions, says: "Some dogs appear to sit in these positions so they can be at a certain vantage point or location."
She added: "You might find a large dog sitting in a 'multi-level' position on the stairs in order to look out a window or door." Michele claims that even if these positions look awkward, "many dogs seem relaxed and comfortable in these positions."

“Currently having five dogs myself and volunteering with countless rescue and foster dogs, most dogs prefer a curled-up or straight position,” Kimberley stated.
She added that dogs don’t see the world the same way as people do, so even if “curling into a small ball, head resting off of the sofa, legs tucking under or over the couch” doesn’t look relaxing to us, many dogs find it especially pleasant.
It’s the same trust story as dogs facing away only when they feel completely safe with their owners.

Dogs sometimes sit in really odd positions, and it turns out there are many strange ways pooches can bend, and it’s completely normal.
"Just like with humans, dog sitting positions are sometimes more “unique” than others." For example, “‘frog legs’ (legs straight back and to each side of the body) are very common in puppies” who still don’t have their skeletons fully developed.
That explanation only makes the photos funnier.
