Badass But Terrifyingly Adorable Dragon Lookalike Is Called The Armadillo Lizard
Few reptiles look as if they were designed in a fantasy movie, but the armadillo lizard comes close. With its spiky armor and curled-up defense move, this South African species has become a favorite for people who love animals that look both cute and a little intimidating.
Also known as Ouroborus cataphractus, the armadillo lizard lives in rocky mountain areas where staying hidden matters just as much as staying still. Its unusual body shape and dramatic survival habits have made it a viral comparison for dragons, especially for fans who keep spotting Drogon-like energy in the reptile.
That mix of adorable and fierce is exactly why this little lizard keeps getting attention. Read on.
Armadillo Lizards have a Latin name, Ouroborus Cataphractus, in addition to their common name. Its direct translation is the "Golden Armadillo Lizard."
Their colors are also not uniform. The lizards have been observed in various shades ranging from deep yellows to dark browns.
Some of them are also found in a mesmerizing pale color, like the one below.

This is the same kind of “fantasy animal” energy as the 13 real animals that look straight out of a fantasy world.
Armadillo Lizards can grow up to four inches in their lifespan of up to 10 years. Unlike other reptiles, these cute little dragons do not lay eggs; instead, they give birth around one to two times per year.
Sadly, these gorgeous creatures are an endangered species, and the situation will remain the same as long as humans continue to capture and abduct them to eventually sell them illegally as pets in online markets and auctions.
