Woman Gets the Nickname Khaleesi from Her Family When She Spotted a Dragon-like Creature in Her House
Jamie Zimolong had a normal moment on her Maryland porch turn into something straight out of a fantasy show. While watering her plants, she noticed a brownish-gray insect that looked oddly familiar, and not in a typical backyard way.
At first, she could not tell what she was looking at. Then the shape clicked, and the tiny creature suddenly seemed a lot more like a dragon than a moth.
Her family noticed it too, and the nickname that followed fit the moment perfectly.
This type of moth is called Apatelodes torrefacta or spotted apatelodes moth.
This species of moth is commonly found all over the United States. From Texas and Florida to Maine, it is abundant in woodlands and fields.
However, it does not breathe fire like a dragon.

It may not have been noticed by Zimolong if it had not landed in her doorway. As a matter of fact, she saw it from behind, which gave it an even more dragon-like appearance due to its V-shaped wings and upward-curved abdomen.
Zimolong did not miss the chance and immediately took its photo. She showed it to her family and her boyfriend.
Considering that she is a die-hard fan of the Game of Thrones series, her family has since given her a new nickname. As Zimolong explains, “I told my family, and now they call me Khaleesi.”
That tiny moth made a big impression.
That “Darth Vader” sea bug is a real-life reminder that nature can look like science fiction, just like the massive creature scientists found in the South China Sea.
Since that fortunate day, Zimolong stays on the lookout for other such insects.
She hopes that one day she might come across another mythical creature.
