Scottish Man Cycles Across The Globe and Meets a Stray Kitty That Becomes His Friend For Life
Dean Nicholson set out from Scotland in 2018 with a simple plan, cycle around the world alone and see where the road took him. He made it as far as Montenegro before one stray kitten changed the trip completely.
What started as a solo adventure quickly turned into a two-passenger journey, with Dean adjusting to life on the bike while caring for a tiny cat he named Nala. The pair’s unlikely bond turned a travel challenge into a feel-good story that spread far beyond the road.
And once Nala climbed aboard, Dean’s world tour was never going to look the same again.

While heading up a steep hill, Nicholson heard the sound of a desperate meow coming from behind him. When he turned around, he noticed it was a little kitten. He decided to stop just to pat it, but the tiny kitten had other ideas as she began to show affection toward Nicholson. She refused to leave his side. Although he did not plan to take the kitty at first, he slowly grew to love her.

Since the kitten was found in the middle of nowhere, Nicholson figured she would be incredibly hungry. The kitten's previous owner had intentionally dumped her where she was later found. Nicholson took her to the vet and named her Nala after the character from his favorite movie, 'The Lion King.' He then proceeded to take Nala with him.
That’s when the trip took a sharp turn.

Nicholson had to be creative in making space for Nala. Initially, he didn't have room for her, but after moving some equipment, he made space for her in the front basket, allowing her to lead the way.

Before long, Nala's personality shone through. She quickly became loving, calm, and relaxed, showing no signs of discomfort with traveling. Nala occasionally jumps out of the basket and sits on Nicholson’s shoulder. Nala frequently attracts people around her who ask for pictures.

You cannot part these two as they travel from one interesting location to another, with Nala on Nicholson’s shoulder at every step of the way. They truly are the best travel companions.
They were clearly in this together now.
And it’s a similar kind of surprise as the Canadian border agents who opened the mysterious box.
Making Juice Together
At the conclusion of the year, Nicholson didn't want to stop traveling, so they continued through all sorts of weather. This resulted in Nala getting a chest infection. This made Nicholson realize how much she means to him and that he doesn't want to lose her, so he stayed in a hostel while she recovered. Nala recovered quickly with Nicholson's assistance, especially once they organized a more waterproof setup for her. This made their connection even stronger.

The pair have come a long way. When Nicholson started, all he wanted to do was cycle around the world, but he found a great companion in Nala.
