Coworker Reports Guy to HR After He Made Fun of Office Cats’ Intelligence
Office drama usually stays small, but this one somehow turned into a fight about cats, race, and HR. A coworker tried to help one workplace cat, another coworker made a joke about the cat’s intelligence, and suddenly the whole office was picking sides.
At the center of it all are Jorts and Jean, two office cats with very different reputations. Pam thinks Jorts deserves patience and support, while OP thinks the cat is just not very bright and should be treated accordingly. That clash leads to a complaint, a demand for sensitivity training, and a workplace story that gets stranger by the minute.
By the time HR gets involved, the cats may be the only ones acting normal. Read on.
Meet Jorts and Jean, two office cats that have been going viral recently because of a bizarre argument

OP says:

Jean and Jorts are workplace cats

Jorts is a... simple guy

Jean is the smart one

And she helps Jorts a lot

One of the coworkers believed that people should encourage Jorts to learn—not make everything easier for him.

The office cat debate was already getting a little too serious.
Pam wants to teach Jorts, but OP doesn't believe he can learn

OP enjoys watching Pam try to teach Jorts to open the door, but everything has its limits.

So, OP installed a cat door, but Pam wasn't thrilled. And he made one remark that made her furious!

Pam said that OP was being racist and demanded that racial sensitivity training be conducted

And Pam is white, unlike most of her coworkers

That complaint turned a cat joke into a workplace problem.
OP posted an update on the bizarre situation. This time, HR got involved:

So OP talked to people from HR, and they were very understanding:

Pam can’t assign work to others

Pam seems to project "new kid" sensitivity onto Jorts

It worked out quite well...

Jorts deserves to be treated with respect

OP will apologize to Jorts

Jorts will get a bed with a name tag

OP will also remove a specific sign

Jorts will get a decent photo in his "staff bio"

Pam will not be in charge of the cats

And Pam is to stop putting margarine on cats...

A cat groomer is to be called if Jorts proves he is unable to clean himself...

This story is both bizarre and hilarious. It is evident that Pam has that “new kid” sensitivity, which she has projected onto Jorts. She needs to work on that because by reporting OP to HR, she has created a foundation for tons of great jokes but has also generated a lot of work for HR, which has to redirect its attention from more important matters.
In the end, the office cats may have handled the drama better than the humans did.
Wild HR drama too: see why an employee reported a coworker for letting her dog pee in a lab.
