Cat Food Conundrum Leads This Married Couple to a Life of Luxury
A forgotten bag of cat food turned into a million-pound surprise for one married couple in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. What started as an ordinary stop for pet supplies quickly became a lottery story with a very lucky twist.
Andrew Hancock had gone out to buy food for Shortcake, the family cat, but ended up buying an instant ticket at the gas station instead. By the time he checked it, he had won big, and the news sent him racing home to tell his wife, Paula.
Now the couple is talking about travel, a new phone for their son, and the cat that accidentally set everything in motion. Read on.
A couple from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, UK, hit the jackpot simply because they forgot to buy food for their family cat. The lucky winner, Andrew Hancock, told reporters that he came home from work and realized he hadn’t bought food for his cat, Shortcake.
He then decided to run to the gas station to buy some. When he got there, he refueled the car and bought an instant lottery ticket. Amazingly, he forgot to buy cat food again.

Andrew went to the car, checked the lottery ticket, and realized that he had just won a million pounds. He rushed back home to surprise his wife, again without cat food.
“I thought something bad had happened when my husband came shouting, ‘Paula! Paula!’” Andrew’s wife, Paula, said. She couldn’t even believe that they had won the lottery... again.
That kind of timing is hard to make up.

This is not the first cash prize they have won. Before this “cat win,” they had won a couple of lottery prizes of around 100 pounds. The couple says they plan to travel a lot, but for now, the only thing they have bought with their winnings is a new phone for their son. “Yes, we are very grateful to Shortcake and Andy’s short memory,” Paula said.
Earlier in July, a man from Henderson, North Carolina, stated that he hit the top prize in the lottery thanks to a pooch that brought him luck. So, it is confirmed, pets bring us luck in so many different ways.
