Lucy Schultz and her partner wanted to celebrate a very specific milestone, finding the perfect kitten to bring home. Instead of a quiet announcement, they turned the moment into a playful maternity-style photoshoot that made their new pet the star of the show.
The couple visited shelters until they found the kitten that felt right, then Lucy’s friend and photographer Elizabeth helped bring the idea to life. What started as a funny, affectionate tribute to a new adoption quickly became something much bigger once the photos hit Facebook.
The kitten may not have had a name yet, but the internet definitely had a reaction. Read on.
They decided to do a maternity shoot with a bit of a twist.

She did a kitty maternity shoot where she pretended to give birth to a baby kitten that she adopted.

They posted the album on Facebook, and it received over 70,000 shares.

"I'd been talking about doing a kitten announcement shoot when I was finally ready to adopt for over a year," she said.

"I just wanted to celebrate my cat adoption milestone, as it's something I've dreamed of and worked hard for."

Lucy's friend and photographer Elizabeth did the maternity shoot for her.

Elizabeth was so excited about the idea of doing a kitten maternity shoot.

"When I saw him in a shelter this week, I immediately messaged Elizabeth and told her I'd found 'The One.'"

"Elizabeth came over a few days later and perfectly captured the excitement of our new bundle."

The little furball doesn't have a name yet, but her human mommy is in heaven.

"With all three people giving him attention and petting him, the cat was in heaven! He even slept through most of it once he was wrapped in his baby blanket."

The whole thing was meant to be sweet, not serious.

Lucy didn't expect the outcome on Facebook that she received. "It was insane," she said.

That reaction was a lot bigger than anyone planned.
"I thought I'd get a few hundred likes, but nothing like this! Going viral is certainly an overwhelming experience."

"We just did the shoot as an expression of delight at Lucy finally finding and adopting her cat, and we had no idea it would go viral like this," said Elizabeth to Buzzfeed News.

Elizabeth said that it was genuinely such a surprise how people reacted to the album.

That might be the most fitting ending possible.
