A mere 70 years ago, you'd be hard-pressed to find any cats living indoors. Such an honor was few and far between.

Prior to modern history, the relationship between humans and cats began some 10,000 to 12,000 years ago with Middle Eastern wildcats, or felix silvestris lybica, when humans shifted from a nomadic lifestyle to an agricultural one. The wildcats began sticking to these developing communities of humans because of the abundance of their preferential prey: rodents.

Cats have evolved a lot since then, of course, but until modern inventions and luxuries came into the picture, keeping cats entirely indoors simply wasn't possible. Now that we have litter boxes, air conditioning, and we regularly spay and neuter cats, it's much easier to keep them close to our hearts and homes, despite the fact that not much about their biological instincts has changed at all.

These “books are for reading, not eating” vibes are like the adorable kitten-to-confident-cat transformations.
