Seagull Consistently Scores Food From A Fishmonger, Waits Outside Her Shop Even On Holidays And Closing Hours

Some people don’t recognize a favor, but a fishmonger in Japan has been quietly feeding one very consistent seagull for years.

It’s the same bird showing up outside her shop, even when the lights are off, even on holidays, and even when closing hours clearly mean business for everyone else. Because it’s a regular, she gave it a name, Furaigaeshi, and even made a Twitter hashtag to document the routine. And here’s the twist, the seagull doesn’t just beg, it waits, grabs whatever the fishmonger offers, eats on the spot, and leaves, apparently not interested in roe.

After two years of watching this tiny shoreline drama play out, she knows the seagull’s habits better than most customers.

This seagull waits patiently for food from the fishmonger.

Since it's a regular visitor, the fishmonger decided to give it a name. She calls this creature Furaigaeshi, which is a Japanese word that means spatula or turner.

The fishmonger even created a hashtag on Twitter to document this eager seagull's visits.

The fishmonger’s first realization came when she saw Furaigaeshi waiting outside her shop during closures, like it had the schedule memorized.

When the fishmonger found out that the seagull waits relentlessly outside even when the shop is closed, she felt pity for the creature. But then, it can't be helped.

After all, there's no way the seagull would know when the shop is closed for business. It also doesn't come every day during some seasons.

Typically, it only comes around for a few months. The fishmonger guesses that since summer is the breeding season, it is during this time that it is looking for nutritious food.

The fishmonger is a bird lover, so for her, the seagull's visits provide her with healing. Thankfully, the bird isn't bothering customers or rummaging through trash outside, so she doesn't have to shoo it away.

In this tweet, the fishmonger says she has been observing the seagull for the past two years.

At this point, she already knows what Furaigaeshi likes. However, it seems that it's not a fan of roe.

Recently, the little creature gets a fish, eats it on the spot, and then leaves.

That’s when she started naming the bird and tracking its visits with a dedicated Twitter hashtag, because the routine was too specific to ignore.

It also matches the chaos of a man dropping salmon to the ocean depths with a GoPro, where viewers expected answers, not a feeding frenzy.

And then came the pattern she could not unsee, Furaigaeshi always takes the fish, but it seems to pass on roe like it’s picky.

Which makes this whole seagull story feel extra rare, because most urban seagulls are busy snatching human food, not patiently waiting for the fishmonger’s handouts.

It can be annoying to watch seagulls in the wild since they're opportunists. The birds that live in urban areas, which are used to the presence of humans, can be quite obnoxious too.

People have reported seagulls swooping down on human food. But this creature truly stands out.

Instead of annoying humans, it waits patiently for food. Perhaps it's this unique attitude that has earned it a special treat—the fishmonger's regular offerings.

Nobody else is getting a personalized seafood delivery from a seagull, but Furaigaeshi sure is.

And if you want a cuter ocean moment, watch the porcupinefish smile back when greeted by its hooman.
