Photographer Captures Tigress Strolling With Her Five Cubs Through What Looks Like An Enchanted Forest
A rare tiger sighting can stop you in your tracks, and this one looks straight out of a fairytale. Photographer Parveen Kaswan shared the images of a tigress walking through the forest with five cubs, a scene that feels both magical and deeply significant for tiger conservation in India.
The mother has two more cubs than the average litter, which makes the moment even more remarkable. It also comes against the backdrop of a tiger population that has been slowly recovering after decades of heavy loss and protection efforts.
And then there is the photo itself, which makes the whole story feel even bigger.

Fortunately, in 1972, a law was enacted making it almost entirely illegal to capture or kill wild animals, establishing a strict wildlife protection law. The law stated that the animals were protected even if they were deemed "problem animals." The country also sought to invest in more forest guards and protection reserves after conservationists around the globe applied significant pressure on them.
By 2006, their efforts seemed to bear fruit, and lo and behold, a healthy uproar in tiger numbers took hold.
However, issues have arisen between humans and tigers in recent years, mostly due to the lack of habitats available for them within the forest, which has pushed closely against what is necessary to sustain the number of tigers living in India.

Our hope is that India will continue to strive forward with its dedication to protecting and growing the tiger population, and do so in a way that won't continually create future conflict.
Kaswan's remarkably extraordinary photo showcases that the country is doing a great job thus far, and the creation of a safe environment for this particular species to thrive is crucial.
