This Man Built A Tiny Bedroom Just For His Pupper To Use
Some dogs are happy with a bed in the corner. Molly got something far more impressive, a tiny bedroom built just for her while her family prepared for a major change at home.
The little Westie had been the center of Michael and Emma McGowan's world, but that was about to shift when a baby was on the way. Rather than leave Molly to figure it out on her own, Michael decided to make sure she still had a special place of her own.
And the result was a dog room that turned heads for all the right reasons.
1. Meet the little family! Michael, Emma, and Molly—don't they look happy?
You would be too if you were about to welcome a new baby into the world. But with all the fuss surrounding the baby, Michael and Emma didn't want Molly to feel overwhelmed, left out, or unloved. Luckily for Molly, this meant she was about to be spoiled rotten, and Michael decided that if the baby got a new room, so did Molly!
“My wife and I love her to bits, and she's pretty spoiled,” Michael told The Dodo. "We found out this time last year that we were going to have a baby, so I thought I would try to give her her own little space to make the transition easier."

2. But where was this new room going to fit?
At first, it seemed like a hard task, but Michael knew that there was room under some stairs that run behind the wall in their kitchen.
"I hoped there would be some wasted space behind the staircase but wasn't sure how big," he said. After a little inspection, it was confirmed: this was definitely the place for Molly's new space!

Michael had a plan, and it started with figuring out the space.
3. He got cutting...
"Turns out it was 4 square meters, so plenty big enough," Michael said.
Of course, all of this excitement had Molly very interested, and she was nearby every step of the way to ensure Dad was doing the job right.

4. Everybody needs a little help sometimes.
And it was lucky she did because Michael needed to enlist the help of a tradesman to assist with some of the trickier parts of the project.
"He helped with the early stages in terms of cutting the doorway, fitting the doorframe, and putting in the sockets for me to fit the lighting," Michael said.

5. Looking Good!
Next came the basics of any new room: plastering, flooring, wallpaper, and of course, a few coats of paint!
6. And things soon started taking shape
Does anyone else want a room like this for themselves? You could hide snacks in here from the kids...
7. Look at that wallpaper!

It was already starting to look like a real little room.
8. Pooch Perfect...

9. Of course, Molly was nearby to approve each step.
And like any other room in the house, it's not done just because the wallpaper is up. It needs decorating! So Michael set to work making the coziest little hole in the wall anyone has ever seen.
10. Wee Molly Dog
Isn't that the sweetest? They added a table and lamp and hung pictures of Molly with all her friends.
11. Plus this giant pillow for sleeping
What else could the room possibly need? Don't worry, Michael has it ALL covered.
12. Tiny couch? Check.
The room was also equipped with a throw rug, a welcome mat, and a massive bag of toys, all for little Molly. If that doesn't seem like the perfect life for a dog, then I don't know what does!

Molly's new setup was getting more adorable by the minute.
Michael and Emma’s new “baby room for Molly” energy is similar to pet owners imagining the relief their cats and dogs felt on day one.
13. Tadaaa!

14. Michael used his free time after work to build this masterpiece...
He says it took around two weeks to finish; that's pretty impressive!
15. And of course, Molly couldn't be happier.
"Luckily, after all the effort, she loves sleeping here and always runs in to choose from her collection of toys when visitors arrive," Michael said.
16. And then came her baby sister...
So far, the pair of girls have been getting along great, but it helps everyone that Molly now has a space to go to when she's feeling overwhelmed with her new sibling or just wants some peace and quiet.
"Her own space definitely helps; she often goes away for some peace and quiet when we have lots of visitors," Michael said. "She is definitely calmer and more relaxed since she's had this space."

That timing made the whole thing even sweeter.
17. It's obvious how much everyone truly loves Molly.
"She is most definitely a member of the family," Michael said. "We know how important it is for her to be comfortable and have her own space."
What a lucky little pup she is.

And for those of you looking at this and wishing you had one, go ahead! Michael hopes that his little creation will encourage other dog owners to do the same. Oddly enough, if you think this is a one-of-a-kind project, you might be mistaken. YouTuber Jenna Marbles did something similar (although less permanent) when she turned a storage space under her stairs into a room for her three dogs, Peach, Kermit, and Marbles. Check out the video below for her quirky take on this fantastic idea! Unfortunately, Jenna's dog room probably didn't last, so if you're wanting to try this for yourself, definitely get all of your tips from Michael and Emma!
