Woman Devastated When Airline Loses Her Dog, They Gave Her $1,800, Saying It's Not An Offer Of Compensation

Paula Rodriguez did what plenty of travelers do, she brought her beloved dog, Maia, along for a Dominican Republic to USA vacation. Except this time, the “vacation” turned into a full-blown airport disappearance, and Maia is the kind of dog you do not just replace.

Rodriguez says Maia was taken out of her pink travel crate during border patrol questioning, and somehow she never made it to the other side. With a microchip in place, Rodriguez and Delta Airlines reached out to local groups and veterinarians, but the search still feels shaky, especially after Delta offered $1,800 that a reporter called out as not much of an actual effort to find her.

Now the family is losing sleep, and Maia’s fate might hinge on people near the airport keeping their eyes open.

Paula Rodriguez traveled with her pet dog Maia from the Dominican Republic to the USA for vacation.

Sadly, the airline lost her dog because the staff wasn't aware that her flight was the next day.

Everyone who knows me knows what she means to me.
I don’t go anywhere without her. She’s so well-behaved that I take her to restaurants, literally everywhere.
She’s my partner in everything.

She tells the reporters.

Paula’s whole trip was built around Maia being “literally everywhere” with her, so losing her dog at the airport hits different than a normal travel hiccup.

When Rodriguez believes Maia slipped away during border patrol questioning, the situation turns from “lost and found” into “nobody knows what happened in that moment.”

Rodriguez believes that her dog got out of its pink travel crate while being interrogated by border patrol officers.

Maia has a microchip, and both Rodriguez and Delta Airlines have reached out to relevant organizations and veterinarians in the county, raising hopes that she might still be somewhere within the airport.

Delta has offered Rodriguez $1,800.

However, a reporter has expressed his view that Delta's efforts to locate the dog are lacking.

It echoes the parents who ignored their daughter’s strict leash instructions, ruining her honeymoon, and leaving the dogs missing.

The reporter urged people who live near the airport to keep an eye out for Rodriguez's pet.

According to the reporter, the airline staff is still searching for the dog. He also encouraged pet owners to consult with the lawyers of Delta Airlines regarding the investigation.

Delta’s $1,800 offer is now sitting in the middle of the story while a reporter insists the search is not strong enough and asks neighbors to watch for Maia.

That’s why Daniela Rodriguez launched a GoFundMe and told people they have “no choice” but to take matters into their own hands for Maia’s sake.

Paula’s sister Daniela Rodriguez created a GoFundMe page, telling people that they have no choice but to take matters into their own hands.

The pet owner was left sleepless and in constant panic because of what happened. The sister further adds that she doesn't want things to get worse, so she was compelled to reach out for support.

She hopes that her sister and Maia will soon be reunited.

Maia is still missing, and $1,800 does not bring back the hours Paula has spent panicking since the airport lost track of her.
