Commonly seen perches on tall trees, the Australian Hobby is a small falcon that sometimes likes to engage in high-speed chases. Its diet consists of bats, small birds, and flying insects.

The Australian Hobby uses its speed to catch prey after perching on top of tall trees and swooping down to capture it. They are also known to hunt by low-fast flight or high quartering. 

They are capable of hunting by night with the help of artificial light and, of course, during the day, dusk or dawn. They may be found in areas with trees throughout the South of Australia. 

They can also reside along the coast or in urban areas like the Adelaide parklands. The Australian Hobby is generally resident, but some immigrate to the north in winter.

A Redditor who goes by the username u/ShereKhanage made a post on the r/tifu subReddit where he explained how he almost got arrested by the cops for watching an Australian Hobby with binoculars next to a school. The user found himself in a pretty weird situation and had to find a way to explain himself.
