Black pets still get judged far too quickly, and that old bias can follow them from the shelter to their forever homes. It is a frustrating reality, especially when their personalities are every bit as warm, playful, and loyal as any other animal.
Photographer Chantal Levesque decided to push back against that prejudice with her project, Chasing Shadows. By photographing black pets against muted grey settings, she puts their expressions, energy, and charm front and center, with nothing to distract from who they are.
