Famous Photographer Captures Absolutely Precious Pictures Of Wild Hamsters Having Fun With Mother Nature
Wild hamsters are getting a rare moment in the spotlight, and the results are as charming as you would expect. Photographer Julian Rad has built a series around these tiny animals as they move through grass, flowers, fruit, and all the little details of the natural world.
Rad, who lives in Central Europe near the Danube, has spent years photographing wildlife, starting with insects before moving on to small mammals like squirrels and hamsters. His images capture the patience it takes to photograph animals that do not always stay still for long, and that unpredictability is part of the appeal.
These photos show hamsters at their most curious and playful, and a few of the moments are surprisingly sweet. Read on.
1. Those oranges must really be very tasty

2. I love sniffing flowers

This is me having another flowery sniff

4. Wanna join me in sniffing?

Rad says that he has spent countless hours in his photo hide to capture images of different wild animal species. One of the things he has learned over time is that you must "be patient and not chase the animals; let them come to you."
"That is exactly why nature photography is so challenging; you need empathy, knowledge of species, endurance, and a pinch of luck," Rad added.
5. Hey there, I see you watching me

6. Can you see my reflection on the water?

7. So yum, yum, yummy...

8. I have a flower, so come and let's sniff it together

9. Here's another flower I can sniff

Rad’s patience has led him to some mystical encounters. He recalls one evening when he was lying down in a meadow to take a picture of a hamster and suddenly felt something on his leg. He turned around to check what was on his leg, and lo and behold, it was a hamster.
The hamster proceeded to make itself comfortable there, and Rad said that he had "never experienced anything like that; moments like this and being able to be so close to the animals are the reason why I love what I do."
