A Dog, A Pee Pad, And A Mall Hallway — How One Pup’s Bathroom Break Launched A Full-Blown Internet Argument
A dog, a pee pad, and a mall hallway, somehow this is all it took to spark a full-blown Reddit debate. OP claims they were just doing a normal walk-through when they spotted a woman casually setting down a pee pad right in the middle of the main indoor walkway. OP says they asked if she was serious, she smiled and told them it was fine, then waved the unused pad around like that settled everything. To make it messier, OP says they understand pee pads, they just wouldn’t bring their own pee-pad trained dog into a mall, grocery store, restaurant, or anywhere like that.
And that’s how one hallway bathroom break turned into a “common courtesy vs. pet parenting” argument nobody seems ready to drop.
A woman had placed a pee pad on the floor of the main hallway for her dog, right out in the open.

Original Post
I was walking through the (indoor) mall when I saw a woman putting a pee pad down for her dog right in the main hallway. I asked if she was serious and she smiled and said yes. I said that’s disgusting and she started waving around the unused (yet) pad saying it’s fine. I insisted, no, it’s disgusting. For the record, I have a small dog that’s pee pad trained only, so I understand the function of the pads. I would also never bring my dog inside a mall, grocery store, restaurant…AITA? Or is she? I’m just wondering where the majority stands on this.
Let’s see how the Reddit community reacted.

That’s gross!

Dogs should be going potty outside.

NTA.

Duh!

People are so tone deaf.

This mall hallway showdown is similar to the brazen dog-mom who kept flaunting her pooch in a pet-prohibited restaurant.
NTA.

These people need to be shamed.

Weird and gross.

Why was the dog in the mall?

Even service animals are trained to go outside.

It’s not that hard.

Ewwwwww!

OP didn’t just notice the pee pad, they confronted the woman standing there, pad in hand, and that’s where the tension kicked off.
The woman’s “it’s fine” smile, plus waving the unused pad around, made OP feel like the whole situation was being treated like no big deal.
Even though OP admitted their own small dog is pee-pad trained, they still drew a hard line at bringing a dog into an indoor mall.
Once Reddit started weighing in, the comments basically split between “dogs should go outside” and “OP is the problem,” and the hallway became the battleground.
In the end, the Redditor says the whole moment left them questioning where common courtesy ends and pet parenting begins. And judging by the flood of opinions online, this is one mall moment people are definitely not done arguing about.
Now OP is left staring at the same question everyone else is arguing about, where the line between pet care and basic courtesy actually sits.
