This Doggo Was Dropped At A Shelter And Is So Heartbroken That His Family Doesn't Want Him Anymore
Hunter thought he had a forever home, until his family brought him to the shelter and walked away. For a 6-year-old dog, that kind of betrayal is hard to understand, especially when the reason is something as simple as not getting along with a new puppy.
At the Houston Humane Society, volunteer Randi Bertholet was the first person to meet him after he was dropped off. What she found in that kennel was a terrified dog who seemed to disappear into the corner, then completely fall apart once he realized he was safe enough to trust someone.
His story spread fast after a heartbreaking video hit Facebook, and now Hunter’s future looks a lot brighter. Read on.

Randi Bertholet has been volunteering at the shelter for about seven years and she was the very first person that came in contact with Hunter after his human family dropped him off.
"When I walked up to the kennel, at first I didn’t even see a dog in there until I looked in the corner. I saw him frozen in fear, trying to make himself invisible. I immediately sat on the floor, turned away from him, waiting for him to come to me. After a few minutes, he cautiously approached me."
When Hunter noticed that he could trust Randi, he completely broke down.
Randi shared the emotional video on their Facebook page with the caption, "Ever wonder what a broken heart looks like? Well, there you have it."
That video said everything without needing much explanation.
Randi tried her very best to comfort Hunter in the best way, but she completely understands why he is so upset.
"I was so heartbroken for him," Randi said. "I cried that night while laying in my warm bed with my dogs, thinking about him in there alone and scared."
But something great happened! Due to the heartbreaking video that Randi posted on Facebook, people learned about his sad situation and that is when the adoption papers started to roll in. So, that means Hunter won't be staying in the shelter for too long and this time the Houston Humane Society will make sure he gets a loving home and parents that won't just give him up again.
"I never thought my video would get the response it did," Randi said. "But I’m so glad it did."
And it’s just as heartbreaking as the dog who cried real tears after nobody chose to adopt her.

Unfortunately what happened to Hunter, happens to dogs all over the world on a daily basis and Randi hopes that Hunter's story will shed a light on the problem and make people understand that dogs are not disposable things.
"I’m hoping this sheds a real light on the reality of what dogs go through when their owners drop them off," she said. "Perhaps it’s out of sight, out of mind for them. But I wanted them to see, so it was on their mind. They all are truly scared, confused, and devastated that the family, life, and home they once had is no more, and they don’t know why."
So, yet again here is another reason to adopt and don't shop!
Hunter’s next home needs to be the last one.
