These Heroes Refused To Abandon Stranded Cats In The Houston Flood

Whenever a natural disaster strikes, communities and countries come together in tireless efforts to assist displaced residents and provide much-needed, invaluable assistance. Yet the unsung heroes are undoubtedly those who seek out the animals left behind. All too often, pets are left stranded to fend for themselves, terrified and lonely; for some compassionate humans, that is simply unacceptable.

After Hurricane Harvey devastated Southern Texas and left over 50,000 residents without homes, the nightmare was far from over for cats and dogs while their owners fled to seek refuge elsewhere. With all the dogs we have seen recently being rescued, it's about time that the cat heroes arose, and sure enough, they have come! A photograph of six abandoned cats being rescued on August 28th is going viral, and it's a heartwarming and touching story that we just have to share!

The fluffy felines were discovered in the Houston area, and thanks to the tireless and dedicated efforts of the Texas SPCA and Austin Pets Alive, those kitties and thousands of other pets and animals in need have been safely transported from the devastation of the affected areas to the safety of shelters and foster homes.

As noted by Richard Branson, entrepreneur and philanthropist, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." This sentiment resonates deeply with the volunteers and organizations involved in these rescue efforts, who are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of these vulnerable animals.

From the fosters who waited in line for over two hours to help give an animal a safe and dry place to stay, to the amazing donors showing up with carloads of much-needed items, to online funding support – we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As we continue to care for the animals we have already saved, we must prepare for even more animals who will need us in the coming days.

Both the local SPCA and Austin Pets Alive are very grateful for the support they are receiving from far and wide, as well as for the local support. This cat is being scanned for a microchip in hopes that he will be returned to his family.

Their work is not done yet, though. Austin Pets Alive also stated:

However, there is still a lot of work ahead of us. As we continue to care for the animals we have already saved, we must prepare for even more animals who will need us in the coming days.

Animal rescuers are some of the most selfless people in this world. They spend their time finding and rescuing animals that are left for dead in dire circumstances. After spending his whole life alone on the streets, Mason, the senior cat, had never experienced human (or cat) love before. Rescuers took the angry kitty and changed his life forever when he was introduced to kittens, and he behaved unlike anything they had ever expected him to.
