Former Rescue Yellow Labrador Turns Into A Professional Ice Hockey Player
Benny’s story starts with a rescue, but it quickly turns into something far more unexpected. The yellow Labrador was pulled from a Utah shelter after landing on the euthanasia list, then found a home with Cheryl Del Sangro in Las Vegas.
Once Cheryl realized how quickly Benny learned tricks, she started testing his skills in new ways, including time on the ice. What began as a fun experiment soon turned into a viral-looking hockey dog moment that nobody saw coming.
And once Benny laced up, he did not just skate, he made the whole rink pay attention.

Owner Cheryl Del Sangro taught Benny over 50 tricks and was trying out some agility training when she decided to let him glide across the ice.
A friend of mine suggested we should make a video of Benny, capturing some shots of him on the ice, and I said, 'OK, let's do it.'

We took some dog boots and old blades and glued them together.
I had him on a leash at first in the rink, and I helped him along with his feet.
He followed me around and was running after me on the ice. Maybe because it's so hot here in Nevada, he enjoyed being out there in the cold.
He was rolling around on his back and everything. He enjoyed it so much.
Look at their loving gaze!

He knows how to turn now, do crossovers, and he can do little bunny hops with his front feet.
He's getting more powerful, and soon we're going to have to get the skates professionally put together, exclaims Cheryl Del Sangro.
Apparently, people have even offered this lovely woman money for Benny, which she delightfully declines. She has plans to teach him a routine to music and even got him a spot skating at the Vegas Golden Knights game. He was featured during the second intermission and was an instant crowd-pleaser!

That same “first chance” energy is what the lab-survived dog felt when it got its first toy, just like this.
You know it's sad when a dog can ice skate better than you can!
Kudos to this duo for not only beating the odds but for coming out as champions instead!
Skate on Benny!

Skate on, 'King Benny'!
