Alaska Man Gets The Nicest Surprise – A Mama Moose Turned His Backyard Into A Nursery For Her Babies
Roland Rydstrom’s quiet morning in Anchorage took a turn when he looked out the window and saw his backyard had become a resting spot for a mother moose and her twin calves. The family settled in under the early June sun, and instead of moving on, they stayed long enough for him to watch the whole scene unfold from inside his home.
Rydstrom had already seen moose pass through the yard before, but this time felt different because the animals seemed completely at ease. He snapped a few photos on his phone as the babies lounged, shifted positions, and soaked up the warmth while their mother kept close by.
Then the day got even better, and the moose family kept coming back for more.
Roland Rydstrom from Alaska was very surprised when he saw this in his backyard

It was a moose family

Rydstrom kept an eye on the moose through the window while he worked. He didn't want to interfere. “We do know these are wild animals,” Rydstrom said. “Especially with a mom and her babies, we always respect their space and give them room to lounge as they did.”
Moose are the largest members of the deer family and can grow up to 5 to 6.5 feet (height to the shoulder) and can weigh up to 1,800 lbs. They are impressive animals.
Just enjoying the sun

The family was trying to catch the sun and moved around the yard accordingly

One of the babies accidentally knocked over a marigold pot. The little animal appeared to be scratching its head on the pot to Rydstrom, but as it tipped over, the cheeky smirk on the baby's face conveyed a different story.
It’s like the mother moose who confronted a grizzly bear to protect her young.
Oh, that cheeky smirk...

The adorable family also left twice, and to Rydstrom’s surprise, came back each time.
They got up at some point and walked away, and I thought they’d be gone, but they came back and did it again.
They tasted everything on their way out and did what babies do, putting everything in their mouths.
Just like human babies - they put everything in their mouth.

The adorable family took off around 7 p.m. after being called by another moose family.

In the afternoon, Rydstrom heard a loud noise coming from his backyard and rushed to see if everything was alright.
All of a sudden, I realized the other cow and her calves were running through our backyard and ran through that family. The mom and babies jumped up and took off after them. It was an action-packed day.
He added that he would be happy to babysit if they come back again.
