Rescue Cats Abandoned In a Mushroom Box Get Adorable Mushroom Names
Portobello is the kind of name that only makes sense after a rescue story this sweet. A mother cat and her four newborn kittens were found in a cardboard mushroom box on the side of the road, where passersby heard her meowing for help and got them to a nearby shelter.
At the Cat Protection Rescue Centre, the little family quickly became a favorite, and the kittens got matching mushroom-inspired names of their own: Shiitake, Chanterelle, Porcini, and King Trumpet. Their story is a reminder that even the most unlikely rescue can come with a surprisingly adorable twist.
Now Portobello and her babies are settling in, and their next chapter is already looking a lot brighter.
“She’s a very relaxed and attentive mum, but if she had been slightly more worried or flighty, we might easily have lost her and the kittens. They’re all lucky to be alive,” Gareth said.

Portobello and her kittens will remain at the shelter for the next eight weeks before being found their forever homes.
