Woman Adopts Senior Dog from Shelter and Discovers It Is Her Childhood Puppy
Nicole Grimes thought she had lost her childhood dog for good when Chloe Bear disappeared from her life at 14. Years later, a simple Facebook post about a senior dog would send her back into the past in the most unexpected way.
Nicole had grown up with Chloe Bear after her grandmother gifted her the puppy when she was 10, and the two were inseparable until her father took the dog to the Washington Area Humane Society. Nicole spent years trying to find Chloe again, but every lead came up empty.
Then a familiar name appeared online, and everything changed fast.
Recently, Nicole saw a friend’s Facebook post about a senior dog that needed a home.
Something told Nicole—now married with a 4-month-old daughter of her own—to reach out.
“So, on a whim, I said, ‘I’ll take her.’”

It also mirrors a homeless mother’s reunion with her beloved dog after leaving a note at the shelter.
The dog was already named Chloe!
When the two met, Chloe ran over to Nicole and began licking her face all over, reminding her of her beloved childhood puppy.
Then, something remarkable happened!
During a visit to the vet, Chloe was scanned for her chip number. The number matched that of Nicole's old pet, Chloe Bear!

Chloe had made it back to Nicole!
Nicole had been heartbroken when her father gave Chloe away, but she found comfort in knowing that Chloe had been loved by an elderly couple during the time they had been apart, who had since passed away.
“She’s made herself right at home,” Nicole said. “Chloe is happy. I think she knows now that she’ll be with me forever.”
