Pet Shelter Staff Come Up With Purrfect Solution For Older Cat Who Likes Being Held
Cats can be wonderfully mysterious, especially the ones who decide they want constant attention and absolutely no personal space. Dougie, a 15-year-old ginger cat at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, is one of those cats, and he apparently prefers being held over just about everything else.
That became a small challenge for shelter staff, who still had work to do while caring for him. So when Dougie needed extra attention during the day, they came up with a clever way to keep him close without slowing everything else down.
The solution is simple, funny, and very on-brand for a cat who refuses to be ignored.
Dougie, a 15-year-old ginger cat, loves to be held. So, the shelter staff had to come up with a way to get their errands done while holding him at the same time.

"This is Robert, one of our awesome feline team members. And that there is Dougie, a 15-year-old cat who loves nothing more than to be held 24/7.
When he’s not being held, Dougie’s meow can be heard from galaxies far away.
So, we thought creatively and decided that a baby Bjorn would allow Robert to both hold Dougie and do his job effectively. 😃 And we think it’s pretty much the cutest thing we’ve ever seen," the staff wrote on the official Facebook page.
Cats can be “clingy” for various reasons. Some cats are naturally like that, while others may simply be bored and understimulated.
However, such behavior may also stem from being separated from their mothers too early or having had a difficult life in their previous home or on the streets.

Dougie, who had been suffering from inflammatory bowel illness, was recently placed for adoption. Fortunately for him, his Facebook post went viral, and he found a wonderful new home in less than a day!
We'd like to remind you that, while Dougie has found a wonderful new home, your local shelter is still full of dogs in need of loving homes! If you're interested in adopting a pet from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, visit their website.
