Deaf Dog Gets A Second Chance At Life After Being Homeless For 11 Years
Solovino spent years drifting from porch to porch, hungry, tired, and almost out of chances. Then one small act of kindness turned a homeless dog’s life in a completely different direction.
A woman in Los Angeles noticed the stray, started feeding him, and eventually called Rocket Dog Rescue, which brought him to a shelter in San Francisco. He was put up for adoption, but no one came forward, and after nearly two years in foster homes, his luck still had not changed.
Then Carol Messina saw his photo online, and everything began to shift. Read on.
So is the case of the dog now named Solovino (Spanish for “he came alone”). The woman who lived on that property saw the precious animal, felt pity for him, and started feeding him.
The sight of that precious animal tugged at the heart of the woman, and she named him Solovino, or Solo. Seeing the dog getting comfortable, she realized that he was a stray.

She called Rocket Dog Rescue, who eventually took the dog to a shelter in San Francisco. The staff arranged Solovino’s vet visit and put him up for adoption. It didn’t go as planned: no one wanted to adopt him.

This feels just like the compassionate person who turned an orphaned dog’s abandonment note into a fresh start in 3 hours.
He jumped from foster home to foster home for almost two years. That is, until a woman named Carol Messina spotted Solo’s photo on the internet.
“As soon as I saw his face on their site, I wanted to love him,” she says. As many aspiring paw parents usually do, she excitedly thought of a name for him, only to discover a cute coincidence, “I immediately thought, ‘Well, his name is Solo!’ Come to find out, that’s what his foster dad had been calling him! I knew it was fate. Then, when I met him and saw how sad he was, I knew he was going to stay with me forever, no matter what.”

This opportunity was an exciting but also stressful time for Solovino. Carol felt bad for her new pet, but she was determined to let the dog have all the time in the world to adjust and get comfortable with her and his new home.
“When he first came to live with me, he kept his tail between his legs for months,” shares Carol. “He was very non-reactive to dogs, people, and cats, and flinched any time anyone tried to pet him.”

After being together for a while, Solo’s new owner realized that he was completely deaf and had serious dental problems. Messina’s dedication to love and care for the dog brought them closer.
“The people who live around us are always commenting on how he doesn’t even seem like the same dog anymore,” she says. “He didn’t smile or barely open his mouth even to pant for months, and now he smiles, rolls around, and runs full tilt across the lawn a dozen times a day. This is the best thing I have ever done with my life, and he has inspired me to get more senior dogs who need hospice care.”

This is a wonderful example of how kind people can be. This sentimental tale shows that the love and care for our furry friends should not be underestimated.
Even a kind stranger’s affection can give a scared and lonely dog like Solo a happy, full, and comfortable life.

Solo’s second chance is inspiring, just like the blind and deaf dog who found a forever home and now helps foster animals.
