Rescued Maine Coon Dubbed "King Aslan" After Enduring Several Intricate Eye Surgeries
Aslan the Maine Coon was admitted to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary as an emergency on Christmas Eve. Rescuer Katie Lloyd recalls that the beautiful giant cat's head was bigger than hers!
"Christmas would not be Christmas at the Sanctuary without an emergency admission. This is "Little" Aslan (his head is bigger than mine!!)," Katie wrote on Facebook.
Before long, Aslan was affectionately dubbed the "not-so-cowardly little lion" by his rescuers. The fluffy ginger boy was rescued from "extreme domestic circumstances" with a severe eye condition called entropion.
The painful condition made it impossible for Aslan to see properly as his eyelashes were facing inwards and constantly scratching his eyes. The beautiful boy was at risk of losing his sight entirely if he didn't undergo intricate eye surgery.
Before Aslan had his extensive surgeries, his team of rescuers lovingly applied drops to his eyes daily to help him. And after his first surgery, Aslan had already shown vast improvement.
"The surgery was intricate and involved a slither of skin being removed from around the eye and stitched to correct the inverted eyelid," the rescue team shared on their Facebook page. After just one day, Aslan was already able to open his eyes much wider than before.
"He can finally open his eyes and see the world," shared Robin’s Nest Vets. 58 days later, Aslan was looking incredible with his bright eyes wide open.

58 days later, Aslan was looking incredible with his bright eyes wide open.
"For the first time, we have seen Aslan playing with toys and loving life," the rescue shared. Aslan would need follow-up surgeries to ensure his treatment would be a success, and it was at that time the veterinary team discovered he also had some severe dental issues.
"The dental surgery was far more extensive than we first believed, and 13 teeth NEEDED to be removed," the sanctuary shared. "A one-year-old cat should NOT be requiring such extensive dental work, and we think this was down to a very inadequate diet and poor nutrition prior to coming to the Sanctuary three months ago," they shared.
After seeing Aslan get through so many challenges, the rescue team dubbed him "King Aslan." It wasn't long before the handsome king was adopted by his forever family and he has settled in perfectly.
"We have been busy having tummy tickles and playing with his feather wand," Aslan's new mom said. "Honestly, he is doing so well, I really do think he is happy here, I certainly am. Thank you so much," she gushed.
"For the first time we have seen Aslan playing with toys and loving life."
