Rescued Maine Coon Dubbed "King Aslan" After Enduring Several Intricate Eye Surgeries
Christmas Eve didn’t just bring carols and chaos, it brought a Maine Coon named Aslan to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary as an emergency case.
This fluffy ginger boy was dealing with entropion, a brutal eye condition where his eyelashes turned inward and kept scratching his eyes, meaning he couldn’t see properly and risked losing his sight. The rescue team had to apply drops to his eyes every day before surgery, then watch him go through intricate procedures with the help of Gemma at Robin’s Nest Vets.
And just when it looked like things were finally turning a corner, Aslan’s story got even wilder.
Aslan was admitted to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary as an emergency on Christmas Eve.

The fluffy ginger boy was rescued from "extreme domestic circumstances" with a severe eye condition called entropion.

The painful condition made it impossible for Aslan to see properly, as his eyelashes were facing inwards and constantly scratching his eyes.

The beautiful boy was at risk of losing his sight entirely if he didn't undergo intricate eye surgery.

Before Aslan had his extensive surgeries, his team of rescuers lovingly applied drops to his eyes daily to help him.

After his first surgery, Aslan had already shown vast improvement.

Fifty-eight days later, Aslan was looking incredible with his bright eyes wide open.

Before Aslan even got to the operating table, the team at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue was already giving him daily drops to keep his eyes as comfortable as possible.

It’s the same kind of fight for survival as the good Samaritan who rescued a tabby freezing in the snow.
After that first surgery, the change was fast, and fifty-eight days later he was playing with toys and loving life with his bright eyes wide open.

Then came the plot twist, because follow-up work revealed serious dental issues, and 13 teeth had to be removed during a far more extensive surgery than anyone expected.

"For the first time, we have seen Aslan playing with toys and loving life," the rescue shared. Aslan would need follow-up surgeries to ensure his treatment would be a success, and it was at that time the veterinary team discovered he also had some severe dental issues.
"The dental surgery was far more extensive than we first believed, and 13 teeth needed to be removed," the sanctuary shared. "A one-year-old cat should not be requiring such extensive dental work, and we think this was due to a very inadequate diet and poor nutrition prior to coming to the Sanctuary three months ago," they shared.
After seeing Aslan get through so many challenges, the rescue team dubbed him "King Aslan." It wasn't long before the handsome king was adopted by his forever family, and he has settled in perfectly.
"We have been busy having tummy tickles and playing with his feather wand," Aslan's new mom said. "Honestly, he is doing so well; I really do think he is happy here. I certainly am. Thank you so much," she gushed.
