Stray Dog Found Hiding In A Cemetery Gets A New Lease On Life
If you've ever visited a cemetery at night time, you'll agree that the last thing you'd ever want to see there is something lurking in the shadows. But when the employees at a Missouri cemetery spotted something wandering through the graveyard one night, they weren't phased since they are used to four-legged visitors of all kinds roaming the grounds.
They suspected their new guest was a puppy, so when they spotted it again, they made sure to check it out properly. Sure enough, it was a frail stray pup.
The sweet little dog was missing most of its fur and could barely walk because his paws were too tender to hold his weight. When the employees realized what bad shape the puppy was in, they quickly contacted their friends at Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL).
Chief Life Saving Officer, Donna Lochmann, says the cemetery is a common haven for stray animals. "Sometimes, they manage to slip beneath the fence and discover solace in the tranquillity," she explained.
"With the vast expanse of the cemetery, they have ample space to seek respite from human encounters," Donna continued. Along with the cemetery staff, Donna came up with a plan to rescue the pup.
They split up and searched the cemetery grounds thoroughly, and before long, a member of the team found the puppy hiding under some shrubbery.
Donna retrieved the puppy and took him straight to a nearby veterinarian, where he received treatment for his injuries and skin condition. The team lovingly gave him the name Kamper, which was the name on one of the gravestones he was found near.
When Kamper was feeling better, the SRSL caregivers decided to reunite the puppy with his rescuers at the graveyard. Donna recalled the touching moment.
"The reunion was an incredibly emotional moment, especially for Kamper and the volunteer who initially reached out to us," she said. When Kamper spotted the familiar faces of his friends from the cemetery, he immediately lit up with joy.
The beautiful pup ran to greet each person and showered them with kisses of appreciation and love. Naturally, the cemetery staff were just as excited to see their furry friend.
Not long after Kamper returned to SRSL, the shelter was able to find a loving foster home for him. Now the sweet puppy is enjoying time with his foster siblings while he awaits his forever home.
